Cecilia G. de Guilarte, a Reporter in the Spanish Civil War who Became a Writer in the Exile
Keywords:
Cecilia G. de Guilarte, Reporter, Writer, ExileAbstract
The main object of this research is to stand out Cecilia G. de Guilarte´s figure, Spanish writer and journalist. She started as an anarchist activist from the CNT party and she was the only woman that reported from the republican North Front during the Spanish Civil War. She also defended her political convictions as a magazine redactor in Catalonia. With the loose of the republican band in the war she escaped from Spain and her ideological evolution and political transition to republican ideas was reflected in her literally production during the exile years in Mexico. Her reporter work was even more outstanding, given that she worked mainly among men and during those specific hard years, and she kept her creative activity during the rest of her life. She also defended advanced ideals for the period. As a consequence of the changes suffered in her vital and professional trajectory, the writer will be progressively moving to a less political style and she will be working other literary styles. In order to have access to different data, we have consulted archives, documents, newspapers and bibliography related to the Civil War and the diaspora issues. We have also interviewed different members of Cecilia G. de Guilarte´s family.
